Basic Personality
Every Leo seeks a kingdom to reign over, whether it is a large
multinational, a small business, the family, or a back yard workshop.
The Sun rules Leo, promoting and enhancing the immense energy, vitality
and stamina that is traditionally associated with the classic Leonine
personality. Creativity, warmth, affection, self-esteem and enjoyment
of life, are also associated with Leo's ruling body, the Sun. The
Sun gives Leos a vitality that encourages them to live life to the
full whilst inspiring others to do the same. Their greatest potential
is achieved when they use their immense energies creatively, and
their creativity range is wide - Leos are likely to be everything
from painters, actors and entertainers, sculptors, businessmen and
women, surgeons, and entrepreneurs, to cordon bleu chefs or admirals!
Anything, in fact, that provides a centre stage for their ambitions
and an opportunity to use their organizational skills to the full.
Like the lion, the Leo usually exhibits the strength and determination
needed for mastery of his or her own kingdom, as well as leadership
and loyalty. But, also like the lion, the Leo can display volatility,
prey on those who are weaker, roar dramatically, or control others
by intimidation, 'going in for the kill' or 'taking the lion's share'.
It is impossible to miss the charisma of a Leo and, whether male
or female, this can be easily observed in their charm, ambition
and vibrant energy as they set out to achieve what they want. And
they follow through, sometimes with a ferocious enthusiasm that
can startle others!
Whether male or female, Leos have a powerful 'animal' magnetism
that reflects their ardent sexual drive. In intimate relationships
with partners, Leos are usually warm-hearted, generous, faithful
and loving. Their strong emotional drive usually means they are
somewhat romantic and almost always passionate lovers. There may
be problems, however, if the non-Leo partner is not so intense and
perceives Leo's enthusiasm as insatiable or demanding. This situation
may be experienced as rejection by Leo, who is emotionally idealistic
and somewhat prideful, and is thus easily hurt. Leos may turn moody,
pompously patronizing to get back at the partner (or indeed with
anyone who hurts them), but because their natures are basically
open and warm, and they are not given to much introspection, the
influence of their ruling body, the Sun, will prompt a return to
their inner sunny state, usually sooner rather than later.
Many believe Leos are self-centred, always demanding to be the
centre of attention in all circumstances. While this may be true
for some Leos, most don't so much want to be the centre of attention,
as assume they will be so. Often this is reinforced because they
are used to assuming command, of being in places where their instinctive
organising abilities are often best expressed. Leos need to bear
in mind that they can easily slip into domination of others, and
especially lovers or partners need to have a strength and independence
that can withstand this Leonine tendency. Leos need to remind themselves
(or be reminded by strong and caring friends or partners!) that
their creativity, which is expressed with great energy, is best
used in the service of those who need protection or encouragement.
Then, like the lion, they can become unselfconsciously noble .
