Basic Personality
The classic Sagittarian always wants to go further. Here is a born
adventurer who likes to explore new horizons in an expansive way,
whether they are physical, intellectual or spiritual. Their dynamic
energy propels Sagittarians into each new venture with barely a
pause, although many are capable of the contemplative practices
that draw them to religious or spiritual explorations. Generally
out-going and gregarious, good humor can change quickly into a fiery
anger as they fight their own or other people's battles. Their ruling
planet, Jupiter, reinforces their innate sense of justice and they
can be fierce defenders of free speech. However, their outspokenness
may spill over occasionally into insensitive or cranky comments,
especially if anyone attempts to tell them what to do, and their
quick minds sometimes cause them to be impatient with others who
cannot keep up.
Sagittarians seem to be the 'live performers' of society. This
may be in the conventional sense, where they are often dancers,
singers, comedians or actors, or in the instigation and direction
of 'on stage' philosophical, religious, scientific or political
dialogue. The influence of their ruling planet, Jupiter, means that
they are keen teachers, especially in the sense that they love to
pass on what they have just learned, and avid students of whatever
interests them. When their latest project or exploration ceases
to interest them, however, it is usually because something else
has appeared on the horizon. While new challenges, and the freedom
to engage with them, seem vital to the Sagittarian, there is a fine
line between accepting new challenges and needing the constant stimulation
and variety that they cause a restlessness or boredom to surface
before a project is finished. Many place too much confidence in
their considerable versatility in regard to what they take on, and
may not consider fully the wisdom of proceeding. Or they may become
restless and bored and fail to see projects through to the end.
The greatest challenge for the Sagittarian individual is to accept
that if one or two stimulating projects look interesting, more are
not always better. Also, there is a need to focus energies on one
project in detail and see it through, rather than become a dilettante,
the proverbial Jack or Jill of all trades, but able to master none.
Their feelings of being restricted or limited by current involvement,
often leads to resentment at not being able to move on to the next
interesting experience whenever the fancy takes them. This can cause
problems in their intimate relationships. Any problems are not likely
to be in the area of sexual activities, however, since they are
usually high-spirited and their innate dynamism provides stamina.
Whether male or female, their proclivity to explore and their usually
gregarious natures are likely to result in ardent, playful, and
spontaneous enjoyment. However, problems can arise if they feel
bored or locked into a situation with a lover or partner, especially
if jealousy is involved, or if they consider the partner inferior
intellectually. A lover or partner may perceive them as shallow
or selfish, and indeed, this may be true, especially in young Sagittarians,
who will not necessarily be content with a monogamous relationship.
Because of the extroverted, freedom-loving nature of Sagittarians,
they often take longer to mellow in regard to their urge to explore
the next thing on the horizon, and are likely to settle in permanent
relationships later rather than sooner. When they do, however, it
is likely they will choose a partner they respect and who will allow
them the freedom to come and go, someone who is able to operate
with a high degree of independence .
