Basic Personality

The classic Taurean personality in a stable and secure situation is settled and earthy, reliable, patient and warm-hearted, methodical and inclined to lack flexibility, able to be led but never to be driven. Venus is the ruling planet and is influential in the area of personal relationships as well as a love of music, theater and art, enhancing the vocal or performing abilities of many Taureans. Venus can also influence their natural proclivity to procrastinate, or perhaps more accurately, to ruminate, so that they are inclined to take the proverbial month of Sunday's to get started on something.

A successful and stable partnership is of paramount importance to the Taurean, whether male or female, something intensified by the influence of Venus. Venus can also enhance the Taurean's strong desire for emotional security, something that can result in an over-protective attitude towards a partner that may turn into possessive or jealous behavior if the Taurean feels insecure. Under normal conditions, however, they are considerate and kind, and enjoy being touched and hugged. They are usually passionate lovers who enjoy sensual pleasure. Their resistance to change means that there is always a danger of complacency in their love-making, and a lover or partner may become bored if they insist on a particular routine in intimate situations.

The Taurean individual is usually slow to move, both physically and in accepting all kinds of changes, something that highlights their patience and even-tempered natures. Some astrologers have described the typical Taurus as having a ruminant quality, displaying the leisurely rhythms of nature and an intrepid and earthy groundedness. It can be all the more startling, then, if they are provoked to a point where their normal placidity flares up into fierce displays of anger. Although they are loyal and faithful friends, once their wrath is provoked, they can continue to see the provocateur as an enemy, partly because of their tendency to be immovable in a situation. The greatest challenge for the Taurean individual throughout life is that of keeping an open mind.

Provided there is little risk, Taureans can be as ambitious as anyone and rise to the top of an organization, often inspired by the material security this provides. They are often found in banks, insurance companies, and the law, as well as the more hands-on occupations such as supervisors or foremen on building sites, dressmaking, florists or farmers.
