Basic Personality

With Mercury as the ruling planet, the classic Vergoan personality has a shrewd intelligence that wants to see practical applications for his or her ideas, work well. A pragmatist who is inclined nevertheless to be a perfectionist, fussing and worrying over details, here is someone who will apply considerable powers of persuasion to get the point across or have the idea accepted. Many Vergoans find it difficult to grasp the overview of a situation or problem, however, and may stay bogged down in the detail. Wise employers will provide the overview or overall supervision of their work and leave them to their tasks, knowing that every detail with be considered and that each task will be approached with diligence and followed through to the end. The tendency to be swamped by detail extends to their private lives, and here, family, friends and partners may see this proclivity as a perfectionist streak, and the anxiety that usually accompanies this can leak into criticism or complaints about others.

Not usually prone to embellish or exaggerate, Vergoans seldom think of themselves more highly than they ought. Essentially 'dry' in temperament, many can be shy or have an abrupt manner, tending to be somewhat clinical in their approach. On occasion they can be sharp-tongued or even carping, especially if their tendency to worry is involved. If this becomes too much of a habit, they may be seen as the cranks of the workplace, and their considerable contribution, especially (ironically) their eye for detail, may not be appreciated. Also, others may not confide in them, another irony, since they are people who can be trusted to keep a confidence.

In intimate relationships, Vergoans can appear distant, or at least preoccupied with whatever else is on their minds, and may find it difficult to relax or 'be in the moment'. Some are shy, and lack confidence. Others can be somewhat pragmatic in the bedroom, and, generally speaking, they are not romantic. They can be down-to-earth nonetheless in their sexual relationships, even if they are somewhat emotionally reserved. The greatest challenge for the Virgoan is to find a way to let go of whatever is currently being processed by the mind (which is no easy task for the detail-conscious Virgo individual) and any worry involved, so that there is an opportunity to relax, release emotional tension, and be more 'present' to yourself and the others in your life, especially partners, family and friends.
